Trying to Remember name of Female Guest married to a politician

I don't know what is making me think of her now, but back in the 80's or early 90's (I think actually the 80's) there was a show in which Donahue interviewed a woman who wrote a book about her marriage (or possibly just affair....but I think they were married) to a U.S. politician...possibly a Senator or Rep. I know that this is SO VAGUE. But, I remember what she looked like (sort of pouty lips, freckles, long wavy reddish hair), and she was wearing a white summery, casual pants outfit. She talked about sometimes flashing the Senator in the hotel hallway, just to make him nervous, in case other people walked by, etc. She was sort of trashy-looking, but was at times humorous. I think she recounted how she had a lot of money, and somehow lost it all (I don't know if she snorted it away, or just made bad investments, or what).

Does this description bring any memories to anyone???? I was just wondering what her name was, and who the politican was. I also remember that a woman from the audience commented on the fact that she (the guest) was there to sort of drum up sympathy for her plight, but at the same time, was sitting in the chair on the stage with her legs spread wide apart, and that she just wasn't very lady-like. I don't know why in the world I remember this episode, but I always wondered who this "celebrity" was. She did write a book.
