FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Former "Partridge Family" heartthrob David Cassidy has been charged with driving under the influence in Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol says his car was stopped around 6 p.m. Wednesday for weaving and nearly causing an accident.

Cassidy told a trooper that he had a glass of wine at lunch and a hydrocodone pill at 3:30 p.m. Troopers reported finding a half-empty bottle of bourbon in the back seat.

The FHP says Cassidy failed a field sobriety test and two breath tests. Cassidy posted $350 bail and was released from jail early Thursday.

His spokeswoman, Jo-Ann Geffen, told TMZ he admits taking a pain pill and being tired from attending a funeral, but insists he was not drunk. She did not immediately return an e-mail from The Associated Press.

Cassidy burnt his fan bridges years ago. He was notorious for being a jerk at signings of his memoir and he came across horribly in an interview with Beth Littleford, on the Craig Kilborne-era Daily Show. She asked a typical satirical question and he just kind of went into a low key rant about being tired of being asked about the show. Littleford's wrap-up ended with, "David Cassidy; he's not bitter.......he's really bitter!!!!"

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!

He lost me (many) years ago when he was quoted as saying anyone who liked the music on the show was an idiot, or words to that effect. I've never found any reason to doubt that he said it, based on his extreme dislike of that style of music. Way to alienate your fan base, bozo. Anyone who still carries a torch for him should try reading his autobiography, where he uses the most vulgar language he can come up with to describe his father, who isn't around to defend himself, and the photos in the book are pretty much All David All The Time, a bit unusual for autobios which normally include a selection of photos of the subject with other people.

I do agree that he needs help, and I do hope he gets it before it's too late.

Oh please, I wasn't really a fan of the TPF music but David Cassidy's music wasn't any better. It was just mindless crappy pop music. He was not a serious musician. I think he was doing some *beep* Vegas act about 10-15 years ago.

His autobiography admits, though, that he loved to F---K his sister!(Susan Dey, not his real one.!)

I think he loves it, so what was he so afaid off.

Well, it's 11 years later and we all know how he totally urinated his life away. He did know better, but it still never ceases to amaze me how self-destructive people are. It's not even like he burned his candle at full flame and just came up short - he was probably miserable for the last 30 plus years of his life.

You feel bad he was type casted, but there were other avenues the late actor could have taken, but he didn't. That was dumb he kept trashing Keith. He was as bad as Robert Reed regarding Mr. Brady, and Christopher Plummer as Capt. Von Trapp. I heard Eve Plumb acted the same way regarding Jan, but to a lesser extent. Those roles were their bread and butter in their younger years, and cherished by fans. But they are/ were only human. The same with Katherine Heigel and trashing Grey's Anatomy. Hey on the bright side, Danny got his act together.

That is why I respect the Walton's cast, they were type casted as well, but honor the show's legacy. Although the producers treated the kids wrong at times with unfair pay.

I thought David Cassidy is/was goofy looking like his father.

reply

Oh be nice. That is sad his dad mistreated him. He was almost old enough to be my dad, but I thought David was attractive in his heyday. He did age nicely for a long time.

reply

It goes to show how destructive mistreatment by a parent can be. Scars linger a lifetime. Maybe he should have left show business and went to college or something. Perhaps entered the business side of the industry, since he knew it first hand. I once read, Latoya Jackson wanted to be an entertainment lawyer but her dad talked her out of it. Bad idea.

I'm not willing to hang his self destructive behavior on anyone but himself. I know several people who endured a lot worse than Cassidy did and they went on to live wonderful fulfilled lives.

reply

I agree.
