My favorite Howard Cossell moment was one night in Detroit when the Lions were getting killed on the field. The camera was panning in on one fan when
he suddenly gave it the middle finger to which Howard commented, "Does that mean they're Number One?"

That game you referred to was actually in Houston, but it was still funny.
My favorite was a game in Tampa Bay where someone in the stands behind the end zone held up one of those typical signs you see at most any MNF game--"ABC is #1, blah blah blah, etc."--and just at the right moment during a field goal attempt when the camera zoomed in on the ball going through the uprights, they dropped that sign and revealed another one behind it that featured a cartoon caracature of Cosell that read, "Howie Sucks!!!" Classic moment!

Better yet, it was Dandy Don Meredith, who made the "Number One in the Nation" quote upon seeing the middle finger, not Cosell. My favorite sidenote to that era was listening to Meredith and Cosell slam one another constantly on air in the booth on National TV, great stuff!
