Chimp cowboy movie? Help please!

First of all, who doesn't love Lancelot Link??

My friends and I are trying to track down an old movie, or maybe some old short films, that feature chimp cowboys. We all remember seeing them as kids, but its been a long time now. The film is old, 50s or earlier for sure, and featured chimp cowboys riding Great Danes. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I have found a ton of listings here for chimp actors and movies from this time period, but of course these entries lack any real details. I'd appreciate any insight you guys can offer.

I remember that there was a Steve Martin special in the early to mid-80's that featured some cowboy chimps in thier own mini-movie. I don't think that is what you are referring to but you might want to check it out. I thought it was funny.
