Singing Episodes?

I've watched several episodes on the dvd set and have yet to see one where the Pussycats actually sing? Did they ever perform on the show or was it just on record. Of course, the group is famous now for having Cheryl Ladd at the start of her career sing for Melody but is the singing group ever actually heard on the show?

I believe that the cartoon characters were voiced by actors and the singing obviously was done by the assembled female trio of Cheryl Ladd, Cathy Dougher and the late Patrice Holloway. Patrice actually was the lead 9 out of 10 times on the singing. They did record an album but Capitol Records didn't market it properly. It is a shame because it does contain some of the best Bubblegum Pop of the era. It was only enhanced by allowing Patrice Holloway to sing which added an R & B tinge to it. They were much different than the Archie's because Josie and the Pussycats actually were assembled as a group where as the Archie's was mainly Ron Dante and Toni Wine overdubbing their voices on the singles. I had read somewhere that the intent was to have the real life singers become incorporated into the animation at the end of the show. This is why Cathy, Cheryl and Patrice were cast, because of their resemblance to the cartoon characters. However, I do not think the real life appearances came to fruition. After season 1, the actual group was no longer used anyway.

Yes I knew about the women who recorded as J&TP but I was just asking if Josie & The Pussycats ever sang on the show like the Archies did on their cartoon, after all they were supposed to be a touring pop group. None of the episodes I've seen so far (haven't watched that many because I'm not a fan of the show and it's Scooby Dooesque mystery format) have them singing which is weird because they are supposed to be singers. J&TP only had one season of shows (there was a second year of just reruns I believe) although the characters were later revived for a second cartoon series set in outer space.

I dont think they ever did. I know it was the intent to do so but it never happened. This is one of the reasons why the actual singers were cut loose after season 1. Good stuff though huh! To be young again!

Pretty much every episode has two musical numbers (in some episodes, they are the same song; in most, they are two separate songs). One is usually a snippet of a song performed in the context of the show by The Pussycats; the other is a "romp" or "chase scene" set to all choruses and verses of a song.

If you're asking if there's any episodes where they cut to the Pussycats and did a psuedo music video like the Archies did, no, that was never done. The original intention was to cut to a live-action Pussycats band (made up of Dougher, Ladd, and Holloway just as on the records) and have it done that way, but this idea was dropped during development.
