photo shoot

In 1972 a photographer came to my school in Gillingham Kent and recruited about 4 boys who were wearing the distinctive "Budgie" style jackets (guy would probably be arrested nowadays) they all went off to the disused bowling alley, where they met Adam Faith! The photographer took a moody picture of them standing together with Adam in front of the large brick wall of the bowling alley - the next day it was a double page, centre spread in the daily mirror! I bet those guys still have the picture somewhere in their attics.

Hi Dermot

Yes you are right. Thinking about for a while, i doubt whether the daily mirror photographer and adam faith would have both traveled down to gillingham, on the off chance that they would see a group of boys dressed in the "budgie jackets". It must have been pre-arranged - i wonder if one of the lads fathers worked at the daily mirror and suggested the the photo shot? Perhaps one of the guys involved will see this thread one day and reveal how it came about.

HI Frank

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the photo.

This is the photo - but only half of it. When i first looked at it, i thought they must have re done the original shot again, with some other lads, as i didn't recognise anyone. Then i realised that the photo is cropped so that everyone to the right of adam faith are missing (Adam was in the center as i remembered it). I think the two boys who i would recognise, must have been standing in this part of the shot. After looking at the picture for a few minutes the tallest boy standing is sort of familiar to me, but he would have been a couple of years older than me at school. I don't think any of the other lads came from my school and i didn't even remember the younger boys sitting in the front!

One day i'll see the whole picture!

Thanks again

Hi Martyn, I've recently joined the Adam Faith Appreciation Society page on Facebook, I don't know if you use it but it may well be worth showing the existing half-photo there and seeing if they can locate the rest. They have come up with lots of press rarities recently and it's a friendly group - very enthusiastic!
