You take good soundtracks for granted until you hear a bad one

Robert Mitchum plays a town-cleaning sheriff with a haunted past. This western has its moments, but I’d hesitate to call it a classic. The recycled plot has been done a hundred times in detail, even down to the training of the young deputy to be the sheriff’s predecessor. And the music is downright awful. You take a good soundtrack for granted until you hear a really bad one. I admit this is a decent quality western, but it’s just an unmemorable one. 3 action rating.

It's a quirky score by Shelly Manne, similar to Jerry Goldsmith's score to 1968's "Bandolero!" (albeit not as good) and, as such, some people are going to hate it. I happen to like it quite a bit. It's notable and memorable.

Yes agreed
Awful sound trite plot
Direction miserable
Still there is Mitchum and I enjoy watching him
Jack jelly do so forget the rest if the cast except pail fix
