Sharon Tate was great in this movie!

She was a beautiful and talented actress. Dean was very good in this movie too but Sharon stole the show and was great in it. It is too bad we lost her and she never got to live up to her potential. I watch this show every now again just to see Sharon. What a horrible loss and way to lose her. RIP Sharon. We miss you. :(

The thing is that she was only 26 when she died and probably didn't reach her potential. She was married to Ramon Palanski when she tied and I don't think he ever got over her death. Had she lived and the married survived I think he would have stayed out of trouble. And can you imagine the great movies she would have made under his great direction? Sad indeed. :(

Sharon had a real flair for light comedy. She had only just begun her Hollywood dream when her life was taken from her so cruelly. RIP lovely Sharon.

reply

It was an amazing performance, wasn't it? She was so breathtakingly beautiful, I frankly had very low expectations about her acting ability, but she was confident, dynamic and believable here. Such a tragedy that she and her child left this world so violently.

My cousin was the bellhop in the hotel lobby scene when she falls over the luggage onto the floor and Dean and he help her up. My cousin said she was the nicest person, friendly and outgoing even with the bit players and extras. Just a sweet person.

reply

I remember that scene. Your cousin was lucky to work with Dean, and everything you say about him confirms everything I've ever heard about him: He was a real professional who loved working with people and had no ego or attitude whatsoever. His friendly manner comes through in his films.

He was one of the most likable superstars who excelled in almost every area imaginable: Movies, TV, comedy, drama, music. We could use more of him today.

reply

No, I meant that's what my cousin said about working with Sharon Tate.

reply

Whoops, I read too fast: You did say "she." I was wondering why this became about Dean Martin instead of Sharon Tate, but now I know. Oh well, they were both nice!

reply

I thought Sharon really stunk up the screen - bad acting, no comedic potential - and not very hot. Elke Sommer and on a greater scale Nancy Kwan had the star performances in this movie. Only reason to watch it in my opinion is to see Nancy in her sexiest femme fatal role ever!

The only stink is YOU you piece of sh$t

IMHO Sharon Tate was horrible in this movie. Nothing there at all. You dont like my opinion fine.

No, how does her brutal murder by Charles Mansion have anything to do with my opinion of her having a bad performance in this movie? How is that disrespecting her? So in that line any criticism of her acting or lack of in this case will be disrespect?

"unlike Nancy Kwan who IMHO, is VERY average in looks and acting ability"

Thousands of men fell in love with Nancy, and married asian women thanks to her performance
in "The World of Suzi Wong" . I guess that makes her "average". The movie is a classic
and still broadcasted regularly.

"I thought Sharon really stunk up the screen".....so what would you call that constructive critique??

You've insulted someone's acting ability along with their Physical Appearance, whom have passed away and not here to defend themselves...yes I'd call that disrespectful.

Also the juvenile "and not very hot" so in your opinion apart from any acting ability/performance, to be a good actress one would also need to be........hot??

You sound like a misogynist pig..

I actually liked Kwan's character in Dragon, did I want to marry an asian woman based on her "performance" LOL

She really was great in this movie-her entrance in the film is gold! This was a great role for her!

Sharon Tate was brilliant in The Wreckers, previous post a couple back didn't think so but for me she outacted and out sexed both Nancy Kwan and Elke Sommer. Personally I never found Nancy sexy anyhow.

reply

NFW she outsexed Nancy or Elke! There was very little sex appeal from her coming from those ridiculous outfits she wore. C'mon! One scene where she wiggled her bum just doesn't do it for me and the movie was 75% over by then. Elke was hot in every scene and just exuded sex appeal while Nancy was cute, delicate, irresistable and absolutely gorgeous in the colorfull dress she wore in her final scenes! Give me the three and I take Nancy and Elke and Tina Louise third. Sharon isn't even on my list.

reply

Matter of Taste, never found Nancy attractive in any film, did like Elke but for me Sharon knocked em into oblivion every time, thought Tina Louise was gorgeous though. Sharon really did it for me- EFW.

reply

Made me sad, she was so beautiful and her life was cut short by a monster.

reply

Yes she was. So good, as a matter of fact, that she was supposed to reprise her role in the planned next Helm movie, the Ravagers.

reply

I loved Sharon's performance so much in The Wrecking Crew that I haven't watched any of the other Matt Helm movies yet (even though I own The Matt Helm Lounge DVD set). Sharon's portrayal of Freya Carlson as an adorable, sweet-natured, klutzy, and lovably goofy character who happened to be a very intelligent and resourceful secret agent was extremely entertaining. I doubt any other actress working at the time could have been as great in the part as Sharon was.

Sharon and Dean Martin had fabulous chemistry together but I do feel that Sharon stole every scene she was in. This movie wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable for me if Sharon hadn't been it.

I, too, watch this movie just to see Sharon since her life was cut short so tragically. One of the things that I think all of us fans missed out on was the reunion of Sharon and Dean in what was to be the next Matt Helm movie, The Ravagers (I have read that Dean wanted Sharon to repise the Freya Carlson role in that movie, which never got made).

RIP Sharon. You are greatly missed.

I agree, in my humble opinion, she stole this film. This is one of my favorite movies with her. She was such a beautiful and talented actress and I really wanted to see her & Dean together in the next one but I heard Dean declined to do it.

Freya: Oh, I'm sorry, did I hurt you?
Matt: Of course, you hurt me.
LOL!!

reply

You're right, koffeenkreame41-1. Sharon totally stole this film. She stole every scene she was in and I bet Dean Martin didn't mind at all.

This is my favorite movie of Sharon's. I've watched it at least 20 times since I bought the Matt Helm Lounge DVD set almost 3 years ago. In fact, I finally watched two of the other Matt Helm movies, The Silencers and Murderers' Row, within the past month. IMO, those two movies aren't nearly as good as The Wrecking Crew. I didn't like the supporting characters/actors, storylines, scenery, or score of either of those movies nearly as much.

I've read that Dean wanted Sharon to star with him in The Ravagers, which was to be the next Matt Helm movie. I read that after Sharon's death, Dean declined to do the movie but I don't know if that's the reason for the movie not getting made. It would have been awesome to see Dean and Sharon in that movie together.

How can anybody think that Sharon Tate was a good actor? I am very sorry for what happened to her, but come on people she was not that cute. And she was a terrible actor.

reply

Nah, she wasn't just "cute", she was THE most gorgeous woman ever. Ditto the most beautiful celebrity, she was flawless. Who, among the "celebrities" of today, can you say that about? She needed no make-up or plastic surgery of any kind....and I like to watch her on film, she had a great sense of comedy and would have gone far with it.

reply

Sophieeclipse, I agree with you. Sharon had really good comedic timing and had great chemistry with Dean Martin in this movie. She and Dean were really funny together. The Wrecking Crew is my favorite Matt Helm movie mostly because of Sharon's performance in it.

I thought that Sharon did the best job of the four actresses in this movie. She stole every scene she was in. She made Freya Carlson such a funny, goofy, klutzy, and adorable character. Sharon's performance was so memorable and entertaining that I can't understand how anyone could not appreciate it.

Most of today's actresses are not naturally beautiful. Most of them (even the ones in their twenties) need a lot of makeup, plastic surgery, and wardrobing by the right stylist in order to look beautiful on the red carpet, on TV, and in film. There may be a handful who are actually pretty but none of them are even half as beautiful as Sharon Tate was.

reply

She was great. I just re-watched, after seeing it several years ago, and was reminded just how funny she was. Her subtle nuances and facial reactions show that her acting was really improving and I think after doing Ravagers and Day of the Dolphin she would have really been in a position to do more comedy roles.

reply

Yes, she was awesome in this movie. I thought that she stole every scene she was in. Plus, she and Dean Martin had such great chemistry together.

It seems like the critics always say that The Silencers was the best Matt Helm movie, which I don't agree with. Out of the four movies, this is the one that I enjoy the most and it's mostly because of Sharon's performance. If I had the time, I would watch this movie every week, because it's one of my favorites.

It would have been so great if she and Dean could have done another movie (The Ravagers) together.

reply

Totally agree! Glad someone else thinks the same. I disliked her performance in this movie. Just didnt find it funny.. stupid is more like it.

Sorry, didn't know I was dealing with a teenager here. (That edits and redits his posts over and over). Shouldn't you be on like the Justin Beiber forum http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3595501/board/?ref_=nm_bd_sm and not a 60's movie forum about a movie that came out long before you were born? Now run along and go play boy.

I love Sharon Tate and Nancy Kwan both in this film. Both beautiful and sexy gals. It's ok to disagree with each other, but it's never cool to bash others for their likes or dislikes.
