I stumbled accros this in youtube.

Darren Nesbitt,the actor who played the gestapo officer answers questions after a screening of Where Eagles Dare and tells a series of anecdotes about the making of the film and the cast involved.

I'm surprised there are no replies to this, as the (23 mins) video is excellent viewing. I wasn't sure who he was talking about at one point though, because of the editing. It was where he is talking about somebody quitting the business and going into real estate: wikipedia confirms that it was director Brian Hutton.
