I have always had a soft heart for this movie since it incorporates all of the things that make a very good time, adventure, spies, world war 2 nazies, no base in reality and so on.
Are there more movies that have the same kind of atmosphere like this one?, both newer and earlier ones?.

There aren't very many of them but I agree that when they're done well, they are immensely enjoyable.
For my money, DARE and GUNS OF NAVARONE are the best of the lot with THE DIRTY DOZEN placing a distant second.
And I don't care what Quentin Tarantino says, INGLORIOUS BASTARDS is *not* a WWII adventure movie. It's something else entirely: A typical Tarantino movie.

There are no fantastical elements in "Basterds" (e.g. vampires) and the story is played straight with occasional black comedy. It may be an offbeat WWII movie, but it's a WWII movie nevertheless.

Tarantino has a distinctive eccentric style, for sure, but -- other than that -- "Basterds" is fairly realistic as a non-historical WWII drama/adventure. It's more realistic than, say, "Where Eagles Dare," which was written by Alistair MacLean and had Bond-ish spy elements and unbelievable action wherein the protagonists easily mowed down scores of Germans.
