the eagle/swastika's on some uniforms...

During the interrogation scene where Burton and Eastwood barge in, the 3 men who are exposed as being German counter agents within the Commando unit, Christiansen, Berkeley and Thomas, all 3 of their uniforms carry a "faded" eagle/swastika on their tunic. Is this because they are low rank and only officer's had crisp emblems on their unirforms? Seems weird. OR is this yet another wardrobe misfire on this film?

German officer's insignia was woven using a silver or metallic thread. Enlisted men's used white thread. Difference would be obvious.
