Ever read the book?

I found this movie really interesting, a bit disturbing.
I was curious as to if anyone on here has read the book?

I read the book; it had none of the dark humor the movie had.

Filled with extra detail and situations, I at times found the book confusing.

I have the book and read it about 7 years ago. The Forbidden Garden. It's a good read. It lacks the romantic interest between Alice's nephew and the young widow. In the book, her nephew is camping out in the desert to keep an eye on her. Also, Claire doesn't plant pine trees, she plants a different type of tree in the book. I will have to go find the book and look it up. It also lacks the screenplay's brilliant dialog of bitchery that page delivers so well in this film. One of my favorite old films with two of my favorite actresses. Hence my Pseudonym.

It’s alive! Guy it’s moving, it’s alive, it’s all right! Feel it; don’t be scared, it won’t bite!

In the book it mentions the husband's stamps several times, so I was expecting at the end for somebody to reveal, like in the movie, that they're worth a fortune, only surprise, that never happened in the original story. But I did like the original novel ending for what happened with Mrs. Marrable, she still goes crazy but for some reason the proof of this in the book was more satisfactory to my liking.
