Geraldine Page was young

Geraldine Page was relatively young. She looked much older . Through the magic of Imdb , she was just 45 during this film. Just thought I would throw that out there.

I was watching Abbott and Costello this past week on TCM. When I was young, in the 1960s, I thought Abbott and Costello were ancient, like in their 80s. Now that I am 51, they look like a couple of kids!

True, but pre-1980, women in their 40s looked and acted much older than they do now.

I agree. Younger women really adapted the styles of older women, maybe wanting to look more mature and merely looked older, with the stiff hairdo's and harsh makeup.

Also, today many women in film have had at the very least a little Botox by their 40s. And her teeth looked very natural for the type of character she played. Then there's new ways of doing makeup better for film and hair pieces that look like real hair. So many little things add up.

She was approached to play Chris MacNeil in The Exorcist, but turned it down. She seemed a little to old for the part, and really, I just couldn't see her in that kind of film.

Was just about to start a thread on this. I was surprised that Page was this young, and I do agree that women and even men did look a lot older back then. Page was 44/45 during the filming of the movie but she look about 15-20 years older and in no way would her hair have been that color at her age. Was most of that down to the makeup? Look at the women today who are older than Page was back then. Sandra Bullock, Mary-Louise Parker, Betsy Russell. It is pretty amazing to see just how much has changed over the years in the way of looking youthful.
