Question for a czech speaker ...

Is the character Yurick meant to invoke the Shakespeare character from Hamlet ("Yorick" - the one whose skull is being handled while Hamlet delivers his famous monologue on death)? I assumed so on first viewing, but i'm not sure if "Yurick" is a common Czech name or no ...

I think that Jakubisko is playing on words. The name Juraj (George in ENG) is very common in Slovakia and is pronounced "Yuray". Jurik (pronounced Yuri:ck) is sometime used as a diminutive for Juraj.
And Yorick is not a common name at all here, and surely it refers to Hamlet.
In addition Jakubisko has a son named Jorik (pronounced as "Yorick"), so it would not be a coincidence. :)
