I don't really see any similarity at all. Viva Max is about a minor Mexican military officer who wants to prove himself with a symbolic gesture. He's the hero of the picture, the protagonist, a very sympathetic (if at times ridiculous) figure. The bigoted militia people who try to kill him at the end are the bad guys.
I'd say it's the better film, but I haven't seen The Interview. And I probably won't for a good long while. Been a hell of a long time since I saw Viva Max--which personally, I don't think most Mexican Americans would find offensive. But maybe best ask them.
