I'm with you trumpetgirl4life I just watched it on AMC and loved the film. I would also recommend it.

reply

The only problem with watching it on amc is it is not in widescreen. Half of the picture is missing or unseen. Check it out on tcm or buy the dvd, it is well worth it. It is too bad shirley didn't get along with clint. If you saw her interview on tcm, then you know she refers to him as "that republican". And remember too she believes in reincarnation. I think shirley mclaine holds the record for playing the most prostitutes in movies.

Actually, MacLaine and Eastwood got along famously, and in that interview, MacLaine calls Eastwood "the nicest Republican guy" that she could have imagined.

reply

In MacLaine's memoirs, she wrote, "I loved Clint even though he was a Republican," and Eastwood later commented, "Shirley was great fun." See Richard Schickel, Clint Eastwood: A Biography (New York: Knopf, 1996), page 228.

AMC would be a much better channel if they didn't have commercials every 5 minutes. I hate it when networks butcher the hell out of movies with too many commercials.

reply

Not only that, but channels such as AMC also make time and content cuts and crop the image, meaning that the viewer loses 40% of the picture!

Your best bet is to turn to Turner Classic Movies and/or DVD.

its good but nowhere near as good bad ugly or few dollars more.
i am a clint eastwood - western fan so i like all of his movies.

reply

i agree the good, the bad, and the ugly is Clint Eastwood's best western

reply

Clint was on tv talking about some director and he said that orginally the part was to go to Elizabeth Taylor but she and Richard was together and they needed to work close together and the part eventually went to Shirley. He said Shirley is Irish looking and the part was orginally was suppose to be Mexican. But he said oh well, the movie worked anyway... hugs

I love this movie! I am not a big western fan, but I saw it once and had to have it. And I like the music in the begining.

reply

I saw this movie on Cinemax as a teenager and liked it so much that I taped it. I watched it a lot as a kid. I don't think it's as important as the "Dollars Trilogy." Just a fun and likealble western. It makes sense that Clint and Shirley didn't get along. Their "love scene" seems tacked on and unnecessary. The ending smacks of a more commercial retread of "The Wild Bunch." A very enjoyable but throwaway western compared to "...Bunch" or "The Outlaw Josie Wales."

reply

I thought I was the only one here who made the connection to 'The Wild Bunch' (and even Major Dundee,...i.e. Heston a hard drinker and Clint in this one and of course the "French Army connection!) Ha! I finally saw this from beginning to end as when it came out I was not a big Shirley McClaine fan and it was Elizabeth Taylor who first showed the script to Clint while Liz and Then husband Richard Burton were filming "Where Eagles Dare" in Austria,...the studio didn't want to pay Liz' extravagant pay,...so they cast Shirl;...who was great in this. The music's great, the sets the scenery and the acting. A Fun Ride!!!!

Love & Peace T'

reply

Yeah, it's a enjoyable flick, but for me it's one of Eastwood's middling westerns.

This is a great movie.
