The soundtrack is a copy of The Magnificent Seven

I saw this movie for the first time now, on TV. Without reading the credits I knew that the music was also composed by Elmer Bernstein. There are a lot of similarities between them that makes it looks like a copy of his own work. Anyone agree?

To my ear it is more a copy of his score for The Sons of Katie Elder. Either way, it works!

I agree with both of you! There are definitely elements of both "The Sons of Katie Elder" (especially the main theme song)and "The Magnificent Seven" (the Spanish cords) incorporated into the music of "True Grit". Elmer Bernstein's music is easily recognizeable.

I think Bernstein's score for THE SONS OF KATIE ELDER is much more a copy of THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN's than his score for TRUE GRIT.

Portions of the theme song for "The Sons of Katie Elder" can be heard in the music of "True Grit". Elmer Bernstein's music is easily recognizable. Hans Zimmer's music runs the same way. Check out the music for "The Rock", and "Pirates of the Caribbean". Some portions are almost identical.
