Oscar to John Wayne in my ass!

That Oscar should have gone to Dustin Hoffman. Nuff said.

You have John Wayne's Oscar in your ass?

Nice to know that the OP has an opinion. Too bad he reeks of troll.

reply

Maybe, but Wayne was terrific. I have no problem with him winning. Besides, Hoffman later won twice for crappy performances in *beep* films.

reply

I am sure the John Wayne estate won't like where you have putted his Oscar, but I am sure you enjoyed it while thinking of Dustin Hoffman.

reply

I'm a huge fan of The Duke but personally even though I liked his performance here I didn't think it was Oscar worthy. However I'm glad he won.It made up for him not receiving one or even been nominated for his work on Red River,The Searchers,She Wore A Yellow Ribbon and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. What goes around comes around.

Fill your hand you son of a bitch!

reply

Wayne himseld didn't like the film and didn't think he deserved the Oscar. He told Richard Burton that he deserved it for "Anne of a Thousand Days"

reply

I think the Oscar he got for this film was pretty much intended to make up for the times he should have been nominated, but hadn't been. He absolutely should have won it for The Searchers.

reply

I didn't think it was an Oscar-worhty performance. In fact, I didn't think it was a good performance. It's the typical John Wayne hamminess with extra ham, which I found really dated for a movie that is not as old as other of the Duke's titles in which I don't mind his acting. I preferred Jeff Bridges' portrayal.

Of course, that's just my opinion and taste and I apologize to the fans.

reply

Wanted to retort something clever but no way I can top Hellbound Hero or Filmmman 3000.
Kudos to you two and here's to the Duke's win - Rooster FTW.

reply

The Academy had a habit of ignoring "genre" movies like Westerns, sci-fi, and suspense. Wayne should've been nominated for the likes of RED RIVER and THE SEARCHERS.
May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?

reply

No doubt for The Searchers. Excellent film, cast and performance by Wayne. Oscar worthy for sure!

reply

Eww, that must have hurt.

reply

He should also at least have been nominated for THE QUIET MAN, SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON, and THE SHOOTIST.

reply

There was a lot of criticism of the decision at the time. Many people thought it was a long service award.

reply

I have no objection to John Wayne winning, though Dustin Hoffman was indeed excellent

reply

I'd have voted for.him..Found Midnight Cowboy overrated. Wayne should have.also.won for Tne Searchers.
