Elvis' performance

He was such a patient character in this movie. He didn't lose his cool as he does in most of his other films.

The musical numbers are fabulous and I always watch in wonder as the trailers tout the "long playing record." I shall look online to see if I find the CDs.

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

He's really very good in this film.

His acting certainly improved in his final few movies

I don't think that Elvis's acting had improved by his last few movies, but he was fine here and in Change of Habit. He's abysmal in Charro!, however, and shows the same difficulties with dialogue and carrying a dramatic film that he did in Wild in the Country and parts of Roustabout. Reigning in his performance, like he did in The Trouble With Girls and Change of Habit, helped considerably. He hadn't grown or developed much as an actor since 1962, but here, he plays laid back and unforced to his credit.
