DVD RELEASE?

When will the production companies finally realize that these films with this picture format cry out for a DVD release?(and meanwhile I wonder why less known films have not been yet released...)

reply

The New York Times listed this as one of the best 1,000 films of all time. It would be nice if the studios realized that maybe some good movies are waiting to be re-discovered on DVD.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle needs to be released on DVD!

Oops, sorry to mislead!

I have it on my Netflix queue but it's still in the "Saved" category. If you have Netflix, you can add it there. I just saw it on Comcast with my son and he put it on a DVD and loaded it on my computer, so I'll be deleting it on Netflix.

Well, as far as I know, not on DVD, but is currently on the Encore Western Channel schedule to be broadcast twice on August 9, 2012.

I just saw the movie on cable, and I don't think it stood the test of time well at all. The editing, especially, is terrible, with poor transitions between scenes. The day-for-night scenes also look archaic by today's standards, and are distracting. There is little character development, and the characters are all stereotypes. I came away from watching it with nothing. Good movies stick in my mind well after I see them, making me think about their themes or changing my views on life. This one did not do so.

You wrote your comment over 7 years ago. I would not expect the movie to still be on any top 1000 lists at this point. But I could be wrong; too many movies are given too much credit based on reputation, not actual quality.

This is getting an authorized release in Spain. I recently saw a trailer for it on a Spain DVD I bought of the classic movie MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION. I know some Spanish Ebay sellers in case you need help finding someone to buy from. You need to be able to play region 2, PAL signal. Cheers, Mike [email protected]

....I was hoping that TCM's airing of it ( in letterbox ) several months ago would have suggested a future DVD release.

TCM aired it on 4/19/2009 as part of their "Katherine Ross" night. It's at least the third time over the years i've seen it there. I don't know who owns the rights to this, however....but it would be worth finding out so we could send them a few emails!

It is being released on DVD in Australia:

Is is extremely unusual for a U.S. film to be released on DVD in Australia before it is released in the U.S., so it will possibly be released as part of Universal's Backlot series, like with the release of Lonely Are the Brave earlier this year.

It is now on DVD through Warner Vault series...Simply go to Amazon and search for it. It is a nice letterboxed format and excellent quality.

reply

Letterboxed or anamorphic widescreen? There is a big difference between the two. Letterboxed films look terrible on widescreen TVs.

Amazon also notes: "This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media". This always indicates an inferior transfer. I seriously doubt if the term "excellent" applies to this release.

You can stream it on Netflix

I'm fabulous
