What Did He Pour Into The Champagne?

In the scene in the bordello, Alice's father pours some kind of liquid into the champagne glasses, and one of the men refuses... What do you think it is? Some kind of laudenum? Absinthe? Or just something more alcoholic? I would like to think it is some kind of opiate, something extremely decadent...

Definitely a narcotic; most-likely laudenum. They wanted a more hallucinogenic experience to push the bounds of their indulging in sinful behavior -- lust, gluttonly, etc.
