Yeah me too. Like most working people he was in semi retirement for the past several years and i didn't see too many of his later movies. Can anyone recommend any of them for me to watch as a tribute to this very talented and likeable actor.
May God keep you in his loving arms forever James!

If you want to see a recent movie of James Garner, The Ultimate Gift (2006) shows an elderly James Garner showing the disarming wit that we loved throughout his career. He did some very serous acting as well in this movie too. James was great in this in film.

In my estimation, perhaps the most "likable" actor ever. Always seemed like a guy you would love to hang with.

Whoever did the casting for this movie nailed it with Garner. Eastwood would have been a close 2nd - they both pulled off that dead pan humor to the T.
Although the dialogue was written for him, it seemed like it came direct from his soul.
I didn't know him personally of course but after listening to the youtube mini bio above, it sure sounds like he could have been that kind of gentle tough guy who didn't need to prove himself and wouldn't unless provoked. RIP James Garner and thank you for all the years of entertainment. I even enjoyed your commercials !!
