DVD?
Stalking Moon should have been released on DVD long ago. Does anybody know of any rumor about if a DVD release is being planned?

shareI also can't wait for a widescreen dvd of "The Stalking Moon" to be released, however, I know of no plans for this to happen. Alas, this is a shame because it is a truly great western.
shareI wonder myself exactly the same question : when ?
And also : why ?
In the years nineties, this movie, maybe the best ever directed by Mulligan - it is an excellent western and it is close sometimes to some other genres such as horror and thriller - was screened on French TV in VOSTF (Version Originale = Original speaking language = US language with French subtitles) and in VF (French dubbed version made in 1968), with a beautiful 2.35 aspect ratio respecting absolutely its original format size.
So at that time, I recorded the excellent VF, thinking : "Sooner or later, this movie will come out on Laserdisc, or later in DVD".
16 years later, nothing except a Spanish version in "Fullscreen" ratio ? Which means "mutilated ratio and film format" I suspect... and must be an old master made for TV in the 1980's...
So why... ? And most of all, when ?
I have screened again tonight my old Secam VHS recorded on French TV around 1990 : it begins to be old by now, and I remark that some shadows produced by a building next to mine is on image, as a ghost. Definition is still good, but video noise and that bar are bad elements. Movie is so good and tension is growing so high thant after some minutes, I forget those stupid material aspects to enjoy the real essence of that movie : war against evil inside us and outside us.
But why American distributors are so long to restaure, and give us a real and correct DVD release of that masterpiece ?
Hi,
I recorded that too, still in ok condition. You may got bad Material?!
Enjoy!
Hi Francis: I have an excellent DVD of "The Stalking Moon," transferred from my personal VHS tape. ALAS, it is, of course, the full screen version, but both video, & audio, are very good. [email protected]
shareIs It Possible You Could Make me a copy? [email protected] Thank You I'd Be Willing To pay For It.
shareno widescreen...but it is closed captioned and repeated quite often right now on Encore...on cable.amazon is pre-ordering the DVD...to be released in August of this year(2008)
shareA new spanish DVD of this is now available with english audio and optional spanish subtitles. It is of course region 2. I have just purchased it, and will tell you if its any good.
"Thank God I'm an atheist"
Bow down to Bunuel
Borderline obsessive
The Spanish DVD has optional spanish subs. The transfer looks like that of a video. It is not too good, and is not crystal. However, better that than nothing at all I suppose.

shareThe Region 1 DVD is going to released on August 26, 2008. Joy!!
shareIt seems like the Region 1 DVD would be in 1.33:1 ratio presentation. What a disappointing release!
sharei bought the dvd from ebay the cost was 5.99 plus i.95 for packing its excellent copy in widescreen 16.9 with dts sound its on the iconic series the gregory peck collection. this is the second time i have watched it and still holds the same suspence as the first time. and its not a pirated copy in any way.and will play on all.hope this will be of use to you as he had several copies and is a dealer.
shareThe good news is, the region 1 release is in 2.35x1 widescreen, in spite of what is obviously incorrect advertising. I bought it from Amazon for less than ten-bucks. No features at all, but a very good transfer.
shareJust arrived today, what a joy to watch this in a decent format, just like the first time I saw it in 1969.
A great western by any standard: sadly neglected.
Excellent transfer, 2:35 widescreen, no extras, great location cinematography featuring the Red Rocks area, Nevada (funny since in the opening credits it says the film was made at MGM Studios in Hollywood and there is no mention whatsoever of the prominent location filming at Red Rocks). But the movie itself isn't that great and there were some lapses in logic in how some of the story went down for me. Handsome-looking film, decent soundtrack, serviceable acting but nothing special.
