Bizarre film, make no mistake

What a weird film. I was going to give up on it until the police chase of the young man.

Totally weird though. But Alfred Marks is very funny. I gave it 8 out of 10.

I gave it an 8 as well. Under-appreciated and it seems to be not very well known for some reason.

1. It has Vincent Price, Christopher Lee AND Peter Cushing. I think the only time with all three.

2. Nazis, Frankensteins, Vampire Serial Killers. Deserves praise simply for squeezing all that in.

3. No spoon fed explanations about what the hell is really happening with the Nazi subplot.

4. The music and groovy style is unappealing to me though.

No it is not ! Didn't you read the trivia or what ? And this one certainly doesn't qualify as a movie "starring" the three of them !

reply

Does "starring" really matter at all. For trivia no one is going to give a damn if they had little screen time, the mere fact they are all in it is the only thing really needed to be mentioned.

I refuse to argue on IMDB until the general populous actually uses their brains

reply

I care. They were the reason I watched this. It was more like cameos.

And this is not the only film which had all three of them.

Personally I think the hokey Communist/Nazi subplot is a waste of time and spoils it. Particularly because the 'border point' with papier mache barrier and balsa wood machine gun tower is so obviously in England. At first I even wondered if the film was meant to be set after some sort of Russian takeover of England. They should just have had Christopher Lee's civil servant/government minister character behind it instead.

It is bizarre and it always leaves me feeling quite queasy. I love horror movies but 'surgical horrors' I find hard to deal with. There's just something about this film that really gets under my skin and disturbs me. `It is like that strong antiseptic smell that British hospitals used to smell of - it always made me feel lightheaded. 'Horror Hospital' has the same effect on me - I really have to be in the right mood to tolerate these two films even though they are pretty tame. The dismembered jogger and the yellow acid goo still get to me though.

You never know them all.

I give it an 8/10 as well. I've tried to watch the film about three times and always ended up turning it off because I didn't understand it. Today I finally watched it all the way through for the first time and ultimately didn't regret it at all. I should've been more patient and given the plot time to unfold because it started to make a little more sense to the end. Anyways, it is pretty strange but still fun. Anything that combines Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Christopher Lee can't be that bad.
