I have a question about the movie's poster.

In what I believe to be one of the film's original posters, there against a white backdrop
are a young boy and an old man with a Caesar-esque look. Who are these two actors/characters? Also, I wonder why they put these two on the poster when neither one of them are really in the film that much, in my memory. I can't find the answers anywhere.
