What year does this take place?

I don't recall them saying but I believe not too long after the civil war since they talk about Sam being in the war. Probably 1870's although if it were accurate, the earliest would have been 1906. Thats when the Denver mint started minting coins. Which would then make Sam about 60 years old which he wasn't. Also the Carson City mint closed in 1893. Funny movie but timeline is inaccurate.
