I've read more than one person describe this film as being an early example of a slasher movie. Is this something any of you would agree with or not?

It's sort of "Psycho" set at a girl's boarding school during the late Victorian Era, albeit in color. No, it's not an exact copy; it has its uniqueness, but the similarities are there. So, yeah, it's an early slasher, but with less focus on kills and more on psychological drama/mystery.
