I saw this before it came out

I was in film school at UCLA in the fall of 1969 and they had a special screening of "The Reivers" for film students in October of 1969, before it was released. It was well received by the audience but you could tell it was not the kind of film they expected from Steve McQueen. I think that was the problem at the box office. I think the director was on hand to answer questions about the film and one thing he seemed to go on and on about was the custom built car that was made for the movie.
