I remember reading in one those "movie mags" of the 60s how he broke it because some member of the production team played some sort of joke and spooked a horse (or the car ran amuck, something like that), and Mitch broke his shoulder.

You can bet *that* prankster was fired.

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

No, what happened was Mitch was practicing riding the horse, and the water sprinkler just went off, spooking the horse, causing him to fall off and broke his shoulder.
