The multi-colored cubes

There's a scene when Cat Stevens (really?) and Hutch are riding in pursuit of Cacapolous and they pass a group of multi-colored cubes that are standing alone, with no seeming purpose that I can discern, way out in the middle of nowhere. Weird.
