In Eclipse Series 33: Up All Night With Robert Downey Sr. (5/22/12)

Putney Swope is by far Robert Downey, Sr.'s most famous film, and it's at the core of five films included in Criterion's upcoming Eclipse box set (Series 33), Up All Night With Robert Downey, Sr.

The set will be released May 22, 2012. SRP is just $39.95.

Also included are Babo 73 (1964), Chafed Elbows (1966), No More Excuses (1968), and Two Tons of Turquoise to Taos Tonight (1975).

Downey, Sr., is an acquired taste for a lot of people (myself included), so he's a good candidate for an Eclipse release, where much of his work can be seen and appreciated -- or not. Kind of surprising Criterion didn't bring out such a set before, knowing them.

Saw this on Criterion's page, good news.

So thrilled about this, I actually sent them an email recommending Downey for an Eclipse Series about three years ago because I knew it would be a perfect fit and also remember seeing one or two other recommendations for this from others on their facebook page. Only complaint is that I wish Pound was in place of Putney Swope in the set since Putney already has a good-as-can-be release from HVE, but considering they put in Babo 73 and No More Excuses which I was never even able to find through bootlegs and were just rescued by Martin Scorsese's film restoration alliance a few years back, I'll let it go.
