Ozon's 'SP' is better, so is 'Plein Soleil'

I was somewhat disappointed with this film, boo. The plot was underdeveloped, the acting mediocre...the only saving grace was Alain Delon's nakedness! :-)
Ozon's homage, turns out, is much better than the original inspiration for his movie.

This goes to show that nothing can top "Plein Soleil" in the genre.
Anyone notice that in both "Swimming Pool" & "Plein Soleil" Maurice Ronet gets whacked by Delon? Classy!

The acting of Delon and Schneider during the last 35-40 minutes of La Piscine eclipse both films.

The acting during the dinner scene when Jean Paul and Penelope return late to the villa eclipse the other two films.

Plein Soleil was my favourite Delon up until May. It has now been supplanted by La Piscine and Deux Hommes Dans La Ville. Be sure to watch the latter if you are a Delon fan.

I'm surprised by the negative comments. It's not my favorite, either, but I would consider it higher than some of the others. Ozon's POOL is interesting for comparison but it plays in a different genre. Both are murder stories, though.

You're an idiot who has no idea what you're talking about. This film blows the "remake" outta the water. Complete moron.

I watched more than 40 Alain Delon movies in my life, but IMHO "Plein soleil" (Purple Noon) is by far the best. They knew how to create suspenseful thrillers way back in the fifties and sixties.
"La piscine" is not bad, but lacks a really good plot.

I envy you. I've only seen about 15.

La Piscine was more of a character study and a showcase for human flaws to me than a plot driven movie. It doesn't mean that one cannot enjoy watching it. I didn't realize that the movie was remade, so I will have to watch that one before I make any comment on that.

I prefer La Piscine to Ozon's film and Plein Soleil. The film's plot is simple but the emotions and relationships complex.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

Curious to know anyone's thoughts on 'A Bigger Splash', which is somewhat based on this movie. I have seen Ozon's 'Swimming Pool' and recall enjoying it.

In the US we call la piscine noir. To me tone is important and this has exceptional tone. I would like to see a remake where the characters are the same but Alain plays the visitor and he and romy kill the live in boyfriend. Then of course in true noir tradition she double crosses Alain leaving him to hold the bag. In French.

I like the fact it doesn't involve money.

I know the girl is 18 but in the US I think they sadly would have an older person play that role.
