They'll have to find a talented 12 year old boy the part of Milo.
For the rest of the cast i would choose:
Tim Allen as Tock. Anthony Hopkins or Patrick Stewart as Humbug. Jack Black as Officer Shortshift. Ian Mckellen as King Azaz. Linda Hunt as Faintly Macabre the Which.
"Questions, Questions, too many questions, you want a shard, Here!'- Aughra, The Dark Crystal.
I could deffinately see Tim Allen as Tock and Patrick Stewart as Humbug. How about Cynthia Nixon And Kim Catrall as the Princess Rhyme & Reason? Also how about Danny Divito as Officer Short Shrift & Bobcat Goldwaite as Dr. Dischord.
Omg! Andy Serkis as the Spelling Bee! That's awesome! Jack Black as Officer Shrift is hilarious to imagine. I think casting the five members of the king's cabinet would be fun. But, I can't think of anyone. I'd love to do a live-action version of this some day and I would cast all un-knowns. I wouldn't want it to have even a hint of the "Hollywood touch". I would just hold open auditions in England and what not and see what kind of awesome talent I could find. Freddy Highmore did spring to mind for Milo. But I wouldn't want HIM exactly. Maybe someone similar...only better. I think another good candidate would be the boy that played Edmund in the Chronicles of Narnia. He'd be way too old by the time I got around to making this. But whatever. Here's a question---what color hair have you always pictured Milo having? I can't remember if his hair color is ever mentioned in the book. I always pictured a medium brown.
I have a great gift for gaming. I just haven't opened it up and given it to myself yet. -Billy Boyd
King Azaz - Jim Broadbent The Mathmagician - Short Shrift - Mario Cantone Faintly Macabre - June Lockhart, Maggie Smith Rhyme - Emily Van Camp Reason - Emmy Rossum Tock - T.R. Knight Humbug - Kenneth Branagh (would be a lot like his Harry Potter character)
Milo should be an unknown. No Haley Joel Osment, no Jonathan Lipnicki, no Freddy Highmore. He should be fresh.
Wallace Shawn as Short Shrift!!! There's no one more suited for that part than he. And I'd love to see Marley Shelton (only the hottest chick alive) as one of the princesses. I think the Awful Dynne should be some sort of clay creation with Frank Oz's voice.
Humbug- Hugh Laurie King Azaz- John Rhys-Davies Terrible Trivium- Malcolm McDowell Gellatinous Giant- Richard Kiel Everpresent Word Snatcher- Voice of Frank Welker Chroma the Great- Seiji Ozawa
I think they should make the Demon of Insincerity a master voice artist. When he's claiming to be a monster, we should hear Tony Jay's voice. Then, once the truth is revealed, it should be someone like Gilbert Gottfried.
I think I'd be interested to see how well Rene Auberjonois would do at playing the Mathemagician. I've seen him play a king twice and he has the right kind of humorous style needed for that character. And how about Jane Horrocks for the Soundkeeper? She has the sweet voice I envison that character having.
I just found out today that Tony Jay died almost two months ago. I guess his voicing the Demon of Insincerity is out of the question now. A shame. Rest in peace, Tony.
this would be better as a motion capture 3-D Film heres my cast Andy Serkis-Humbug Billy Crystal-Tock(his face could be motion captured while the rest of tock's body is animated by hand) Max Records-milo
Tim Allen or Neil Patrick Harris-Tock Rowan Atkinson or Eric Idle-Humbug Kristin Chenoweth-Princess Rhyme Laura Osnes or Idina Menzel-Princess Reason Julie Andrews, Meryl Steep, or Betty White-The Which Dan DeVito-Office Shortshift Tom Kenny-Spelling Bee Terrible Trivium-Anyone who can do a great villian performance
I hadn't really been thinking much about this for quite a while, but I just recently happened to come back here and read more posts and I started considering the matter further. And now I have an idea for a character I hadn't been able to come up with an actor for before. How about Nathan Lane as Doctor Dischord?
