Too bad it was one and done for Lazenby.

I thought George Lazenby was the best James Bond after Connery. I thought Connery was great in the first four Bond films, but he turned in poor performances in You Only Live Twice, Diamonds are Forever, and Never Say Never Again. He just mailed it in. Lazenby should have signed that seven picture deal. Then we would have been spared all those "funny" Bond films starring Roger Moore...all lousy.

Lazenby should have done Diamonds Are Forever, at the very least. It would have been a much better film than the one we ended up getting.

My top "Bond regret" is that we didn't get a second Lazenby film that was a direct sequel to OHMSS, with the same tone, maybe with Hunt back as director and Savalas back at Blofeld. Even moreso than not getting more Dalton films. Another Lazenby outing certainly would have been more interesting than the so so Diamonds are Forever.

Agreed, CountJohn.

I also agree.

To my knowledge, it wasn't Lazenby who wrote the scripts or was in charge of the production, so I don't quite see why that would necessarily have been the case (of course one might argue that since Lazenby in all likelihood could not do comedy, they would have gone the more serious route... but then again Moore himself was rarely the "light hearted" or goofy aspect of his entries, but rather the stuff around him). And Moore's films were not "lousy"; they're great fun.

Lazenby would have had more time to grow into the role by doing more films and get used to being James Bond but he foolishly turned down the deal. So all we have to remember him by is his sub-par performance that had to be dubbed for most of it.

Lazenby never turned down continuing as Bond, that's a rumor started many years ago by some idiot, who did not know what the heck he was talking about.

Please read the trivia for the movie, to get the whole story of why Lazenby never returned, to get the more truthfully picture.

He was dubbed in the Sir Hilary parts, and no where else. So I'd say at most its 1/4 of the movie.

Guess who else was dubbed.

Eunice Gayson
Ursula Andress
Blofeld (In From Russia with Love/Thunderball)
Daniela Bianchi
Gert Frobe
Shirley Eaton
Claudine Auger
Aldolfo Celi
Tetsuro Tanaba
Mie Hama

It wasn't until Diamonds are Forever that they hired actors that didn't need to be dubbed.

Roger Moore is my favourite Bond, so i'm very glad Lazeby didn't do more than one. I think he was rather dull.
