Wouldn't you like a "simple Bond movie" ?

It's great that Bond movies bacame epic with big budgets. They are filled with 3 explosions, 27 villains, 2 plot twists, one vendetta, 4 main cars and 7 countries, with a 2h30 lenghs...

But wouldn't it be good, once in a while, to have a simple and more realistic spy thriller, like From russia with love or On her majesty's secret service ?

Of course, every James Bond movie has been over the top, and had been jumping-the-shark (unrealistic villain's plans, complex plots, ...). But it seems like they try to do "bigger" with every new movie, so it is always "more dangerous", more "threatening", "more uncertain" and more of everything.

Couldn't they slow it down a bit to get back to serious missions, like For your eyes only or the living daylights ?
The darker tone is great with Craig, and he's my fav actor since Dalton, but I miss the real espionnage movies.

On Her Majestys Secret Service is one of the longest Bond films and it had an enourmous budget for its time. I don't think they've changed that much over time.

Seems to me Casino Royale is in that tradition, although unbelievably it's been a decade now. It's Craig era at least.

Sometimes you feel like a simple Bond movie, sometimes you don't.

I dont like it when they go overboard with exotic locations, for no real reason. Movies feel too chaotic when the main character is jumping between Europe and South America and Asia and back to meet random contacts in scenes that dont make sense, when the obvious reason is that the producers wanted a lot of cool shots of fancy locations.
