rough air simulator?

Hi,

there is a scene in the film where we see a pilot being tested in what looks like a very rudimentary flight simulator, the character who loses his hand and gets a hook for a replacement says something along the line of "thats enough rough air testing for today" and the guy in the blue-coloured machine jumps out.

Does anyone know if this is a late 60s anachronism, or did the RAF really have these simulator type things during WWII?
