Billy: miscast?

I watched this yesterday as part of Encore Western's Six Gun Salute to Clint Walker. I had seen this before, but watching it again yesterday renewed my feeling that the part of "Billy" was miscast.

Paul Hampton just seems too old for the part. I think Gary Busey may have been a good choice, maybe Jon Voight.

Thoughts?

Yes, I thought that too. Billy has to be minor, but Paul Hampton was 31 or 32 years old.

I wonder if "Billy Valence" is related to "Liberty Valence?".

Definitely miscast. The part called for a minor, which means 20 years-old or less back then, and he was clearly 30 or over. I looked him up and he was 31 during shooting.
