Name of song played during the movie

Does anyone know the name of the song played throughout this movie? I can hear part of the lyrics ("couldn't we?") and the song seems to have a Scriptural basis, referring to the crucifixion of Christ. Is this a well-known song, perhaps a religious song, or was it written specifically for this movie? I would like to find the lyrics and/or music to it. It's beautiful!

I just bought the DVD and watched it recently. Here's the only information I could gather from the credits:

Song - "The Messenger"
Lyrics by Irwin Levine
Music by Philip Springer
Music composed and conducted by Philip Springer.

Hope this helps.

A very weird song for this movie.

Part of the lyrics went:

"It happened in Jerusalem and Dallas and Memphis Tennessee..."

er....Jesus, John Kennedy and Martin Luther King?

Totally irrelevant to the movie - I note it's written by the guy that did ALL the soundtrack music, so I guess he slipped it in..

Come on lads, bags of swank!

Did the composer and lyric writer see the film at all before writing both the music and lyrics?

When (spoiler) Vincent price is killed you get comedy cues on the soundtrack for example and the 'upbeat' nature of the song over the closing credits is totally inappropriate for the material.

I agree that the references to Jesus, JFK and Martin Luther King in the lyrics are very strange. Surely, the producers are not trying imply that they have a similar ending?

I thought the soundtrack very weird..the lyrics with the score and the movie just seemed so out of sorts although at least now I understand a little better with the explanation you have all given..but, in a western...Jerusalem and Dallas and Memphis Tennessee just seems a little wacky..of course who would have thought Vincent Price in a western...LOL...
