Good Movie..Bad Ending

I saw this movie when it came out and I was 18 and went in looking for "Cheyenne" and got the shock of my life! I had never seen westerns where people "bled" when they got shot and also the intense violence.

That said, I have become a fan of realistic westerns so this was my first realistic western and it certainly helped set the standard. It was also good to see Vincent Price in a different character. Anne Francis were also perfect in her part. The punk Billy certainly had it coming and it wouold have been good to see Cain be the one to give it to him. I can't remember what happened to provoke his demise but I think he picked the fight and like it was said, he should have checked his gun before holstering it after shooting Vincent Price. In summing up, the ending could have been better but it was a good movie.

I liked the ending - well aside from the horrid song! lol that was bad.

The ending certainly fit into the pessimistic late 60's vibe.

Can't argue with that. I remember the period too well. It started in 1963 with the assassination of JFK and ended with Watergate and and the Iran Hostage Crisis. A very touch period indeed. If you look at a lot of the TV and movies before the assassination, they were full of optimism. It took a long time for that to come back.

"Moods" and "vibes"? More like the expiration of the Hays Code the year before.

You have pretty much summed it up.

Huh? "A very touch period?" What does that mean? Began with the Kennedy assassination and ended with the Iran hostage crisis? Tell me--what optimism came back after the Iran hostage crisis? And where do you see that in the films and TV after the Iran hostage crisis? I think maybe you are confusing historical reality with the naive optimism of your lost childhood!

reply

You're right.... since Kennedy everything turned to horse dung.... times were much better before... so we just had to make a good life with our family...
