Will this ever land on home video?

Out of all their Hammer Film library, this is one title Warner has never released in any home video format. If they don't have confidence enough to release it on it's own as a DVD, maybe they could pair it with another Hammer title yet to make its digital debut: WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH.

Well I sure hope they do release this on DVD one day - I saw this film on the telly many years ago and I thought it was amazing - such good ideas put together in a really hammy way. The theme tune alone should be enough to earn this movie a DVD release.

reply

I have never seen this film and really want to one of these days; it would be fun to see Catherine Schell in another role from the Bond-girl era of her career.

Warners should follow MGM's cue and release it's own version of MGM's highly successful "Midnight Movies" series of double feature DVDs.

A pairing of MOON ZERO TWO with WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH would seem to be an ideal contrast in subject matter.

Is anyone at Warners (or whoever holds the rights) listening?????

(*sigh*)

reply

Yes I would love to see this on a high quality DVD release! COme on, WB, let's have it! I love this movie!

Dear qed: Maybe your DVD was copied from the Australian PAL video release. Warner Home Video Australia released it in 1989. I have the original PAL video so I know of which I speak.

Don't know of any other homevideo release MOON ZERO TWO ever had. Definitely a curiosity piece.

DIG THOSE MOON DANCERS WITH THE BIG, FLOPPY COWBOY HATS. YEE HAAAAA.

I'd like to see this without being forced to buy it from a bootlegger, but if thats the way warner wants it, f em.

Yeah, me too

Now it is.

Dear BijouBob in 8mm: MOON ZERO TWO was released on Warner Home Video in Australia in 1989. A rather bizarre movie but not all that bad. A genuine curio in my opinion. (I do have the original Warner Australia PAL video).

It is quite hard to find, though. I can't believe I found it. I got it in its original Warner blue video box with the logo inside the big plastic case. Groovy.

Thanks for the info, CG! I have hopes we'll eventually see a legit release. Otherwise...well, if Warner's doesn't want my money, I'm sure someone in the grey market does!

Dear BijouBob in 8 mm: MOON ZERO TWO (1969) may yet end up being released on DVD. A most unusual movie for a Hammer production.

I hope so. Even though Hammer had dabbled with science fiction before, this was quite a departure for them. Given their limited resources, the film's production values are incredible.

reply

MOON ZERO TWO may yet end up on DVD.

I bought lots of Hammer Productions on Anchor Bay video a few years ago, but I thought it was funny MOON ZERO TWO didn't show up.

THE LOST CONTINENT did. Along with many others.

I guess that's the way it goes sometimes.

For Region 1, I believe Warner Bros. still holds the rights to MOON ZERO TWO, as well as WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH. (Aw heck, just release them as a double feature DVD!)

reply

They also own CRESCENDO which is nto a classic Hammer but deserves a DVD too. Maybe a 3 pack like those box sets they issued in 2007? CRESCENDO was only released here in a compromised, censored PG version. WHEN DINOS is also missing footage that Warner's removed to secure a G rating for the movie.
MOON ZERO TWO must have really stung. It was Hammer's most expensive movie ever and I think their biggest bomb, it died a miserable death when released. That is most likely why Warner's has overlooked it to date.

I just purchased this film on a DVD doublebill with "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" for $16.99 at a local Best Buy. It's a nice quality widescreen presentation that alas has no extras or even scene selections, but at least it's finally on DVD.

"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"

I just watched both of them for the first time in... years on this dvd edition. I actually liked them better than I thought I would seeing them now as an adult.

reply

Holy Crap! Really?? I just went to their website and it says it will release Oct 7 2008. How did you get it already?? COOL! Can't wait. I watched a MST3000 version and it was ok, but the real movie would be better

reply

Supposed to be released TODAY 10/08/08
pushed back apparently?
Best Buy and Amazon now list as backordered or out of stock.
Something is up.
Hopefully it's just a shipping foul up

Best Buy withdrew the dvd. You can find it on mininova.org

Just bought a used dvd of "Moon Zero Two" and "When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth" for $19.99. Copies are getting very scarce, and those selling them are jacking up the prices.

So cool! I just got the new Warner Archive release in the mail today (I pre-ordered it) and it looks exactly the same as a bootleg copy I bought from a film collector online last year, with the same original movie poster art on the cover! Now if only it had included the original theatrical trailer, that would have been great. I love this film! It's one of the very few classic sci-fi films made by Hammer, the British Horror studio, released through WB-Seven Arts. It stars an unknown-at-the-time American actor, James Olson, who went on to distinguish himself in Robert Wise's excellent classic sci-fi thriller, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN (1971). And beautiful Catherina von Schell is his love interest, a few years before she starred in SPACE 1999 in the late 1970s.
I'm so glad this is finally out on DVD from the studio which released it! This film has been long overdue for a video release.
