DVD??

Anyone any idea if the dvd of this film is available? I've searched for it everywhere but all I can find is the vhs. Can we lobby someone to release it on disc??

reply

I've been looking for it too. All I have been able to find is for $45(US) on Amazon.

If I find it anywhere else, I will let you know.

reply

It hasn't been released yet by its studio. It's now early 2006 and still no word on it.

reply

You can find it in England on ebay. Its some Hong -Kong DVD and he only sells to people living in England.

Here is the information on ebay.

This film is region FREE and is PAL sourced so they will play in the UK and Europe . This film has never been released in the UK .

The dvds have been imported from Hong Kong and are aimed at English speaking countries so there are free from non-English writing .Please do not confuse these imported dvds with the inferior imported dvds which are convered in foreign writing and have unremoveable foreign subtitles .The picture and sound is very good as this film has been restored from an original print .

For more information go to ebay.co.uk and search for Monte carlo or bust.

Best Regards

Tommy

Sorry if I am naive, but when was that invented? I had no idea there were region-free DVDs out there, ones that would play on any machine.

I think by region free the writer is referring to region 0, which means that the digits have not been encoded with any region. That means that the dvd player will extract the information off the disc and not lock up. Of course this does not mean that the film will automatically play on any dvd player in the world; the video standard still needs to be taken into account - PAL, NTSC and SECAM, being the 3 most common.

If this film is PAL sourced then it should display on any UK tv. Best of luck with the dvd, but I think I'll wait for the official release. I would be surprised if the copyright holder has decided to release this film in Hong Kong and nowhere else, so I suspect that the money you pay for this might be finding its way into some not very savory pockets.

reply

Yes, I too can't wait for this film on DVD. One of my absolute favourites as a kid. A comedy about racing/rallying old cars, what more could we ask for? Unfortunately I don't have a TV (by choice) and can only watch movies on DVD on the PC. This is a much better film than Magnificent Men, only it doesn't have the gimmick of frail old planes. Great slapstick humour. Susan Hampshire delightful as the English rose, too. Can't wait for a DVD.

I have seen the pirate "Hong Kong silver" dvd of the film and it sucks its a bad transfer from the laser disk(transfered from NTSC to PAL badly you can see the frame stretch) release I own the U.S Laser disk so I knew where to look for the join where the laser disk side changes were!Lots of unreleased material finds its way onto Hong Kong DVD's if you support them all you are doing is working against the copyright owners ever releasing an official release.

reply

There seem to be at least two radically different cuts of this film. The one occasionally shown on UK TV is cut by almost half an hour! A terrible fate for a decent film.

Was the laserdisc the full two hours? I think the UK VHS was the drastically cut version.

reply

Playing it now in Canada ,received from Amazon for $9.99.No commentary or other features other than a trailer but a good widescreen transfer.

Apparently this is being released by Paramount on June 3rd of '08 (check Movies Unlimited). They also list the running time at 125 min.

Is it being released in the UK too? I realy want to buy it, but all there is is vhs, so if they release the dvd in the uk then I may as well wait until then.

reply

The DVD will be released next months. Stupid IMDB has not listed that as DVD title and the link to Amazon does not work. The only thing coming up the the VHS. Search on Amazon.Com for the title and the film will come up w. the new cover art.

I ordered this yesterday from Legend Films along with one of my all time favorite movies that I've been waiting for on DVD for years, "Baby It's You". It seems Legend bought a few obscure cult titles from Paramount and released them on their label. I also bought Won Ton Ton: The Dog That Saved Hollywood. I remember there being a lot of cameo appearances by some old time screen legends from when I saw it as a kid. I can't wait to see this one again too.
