Influence Fringe and V?

With the Monitors and the relationship between aliens and humans, the movie made me think of two current science fiction TV series. Fringe has the Observers and V has aliens who recruit influential humans to keep the others in line.

Makes me wonder if the writers on those shows were fans of this movie. Do you see the connections?

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I haven't watched those two shows, so I can't judge how similar the plot device is but keep in mind that the Monitors are completely benevolent. They're some sort of peace missionaries from outer space.

The idea occurs in The Day the Earth Stood Still ("Klaatu barada nikto!") Also, John Carpenter's They Live has space aliens but that story is an allegory on Ronald Reagan's America. In The Matrix, the first attempt to create a world for the "plugged in" human race is a Utopia which human nature revolts against.

Not sure about the V connection but I could see how one could make the Fringe connection. There was a Men In Black connection I couldn't help but see, they even pacify people with a little weird handheld device.

Well now we know that the Observers were a far cry from benevolent. More like, dictatorship.

Brains are good, especially when sauteed with carmelized onions.

I do wonder what Abrams would say.
