A borderline great movie

Look at the ratings given to Michael Kohlhaas - Der Rebell. I saw this almost thirty years ago -- once! -- on a local TV station, and have been trying to find a copy ever since. DO try to see this if you ever get a chance.

I discovered tonight that The Jack Bull was derived from Von Kleist's novel, too. What I loved about Kohlhaas was its vivid portrayal of 16th/17th century social unrest, which culminated in several Peasant Wars and, ultimately, contributed to the Thirty Years War. How the American West can hold a candle to that historical perspective, I can't imagine.

The musical "Ragtime" is also based on the Kohlhaas story.

I knew that HBO's Jack Bull was supposed to be the same story, you are right that the American West does not compare to 16th/17th century Europe. There is no comparison between Jack Bull and Michael Kohlhass:Der Rebell.

WHY IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THIS MOVIE?
