wow!

just watched this movie last night. picked it up the other day on a two-movie disk from "the dollar tree" yeah, that's right, 2 movies on one $1.00 disk..
(the other is "Medusa" with george hamilton...haven't watched it yet, though)
very impressed with this movie and wonder how it dropped off the charts and into public domain (which it must have to be on such a disk, right?)!
david carradine at his absolute best, i've never seen him act so well as in this movie.
burl ives, as the grandfatherly figure we all know and love (and which he always fit so well) superb.
jack palance, wonderfully evil, as has only come to be expected from jack palance.
brock peters, exceptional.
filmed well, acted well, directed well........if you can find it, watch it..

Apparently this film was originally released with two different endings... does this DVD have the "happy" or "sad" ending?

reply

The ending of the dvd I watched was when Benjie and his wife Robin ride off from the Indian village with Benjie on a horse pulling a travois - he was wounded during the gunfight with Colby and company, and insisted on going back to the ranch he co-owned with Neil McMasters who was accidentally shot during the gun battle, despite the Indian chief's advice to the contrary. Whether you view this as a happy or sad ending is a matter of opinion.

I've never seen the movie, but apparently in one version the "goodies" win out and in the other the "baddies" win out.

reply

That's the ending I have. I can't see it as a happy or sad ending. Kind of downbeat (not that there is anything wrong with that), I guess some people would say it's "sad".

"It's always opening time in the Sailors Arms".
