She was the best thing about this whole film. I have never seen her look more beautiful. The best performance I've ever seen her give. Usually, I'm not a fan.

I agree. Ava Gardner is more beautiful than ever (if it's possible). I'm a big fan of her and she is really the best thing about Mayerling! She is a very gourgeous 46-year-old woman.

The Empress Elizabeth (See the portrait by Winterhalter) whom she portrays was also considered a ravishing beauty who disliked the lack of a private life, and seems to have been melancholy by nature and most likely anorexic. Gardner's portrayal of the Empress (except for Elizabeth's extreme thinness) was very true to life.
