Is this wonderful movie so unknown?

I've always loved this film, though i've only seen it twice (rare TV broadcasts)

For some reason I was thinking about it all day today, esp Danny Kaye's wonderful "straight" performance.
I am SHOCKED to see only 292 votes, and four message threads.

IMO this is one of the most important films ever made. Totally unique, perfectly executed, and with a cast that would make most directors faint.

Have most people simply never seen this film, or do they just not understand it?

I agree 100% it is brilliant. I find it unreal that there is no DVD available.

This movie is unknown because it's an undigestable, incomprehensible, bloated reworking of a play which includes many miscast talented people.
