Will the unedited version ever see daylight?

MacKenna's Gold seems to have suffered the same fate as the other Columbia Picture classic western, Major Dundee, by being heavily cut in the pre-release stage. Unlike Major Dundee, which has been extended, but not fully restored, MacKenna's Gold seems to have been overlooked. I'm not entirely sure of the original running time but i understand it was a particularly long film, which is apparant when seen today in it's present form, which leaves several loose ends. Unfortunately, i can't see Sony even entertaining the idea of restoring this masterpiece, assuming the missing footage still exists. I hope they prove me wrong.
