I thought this was a little bit mean spirited for a Don Knotts movie.
Mr. Twilight hitting Lisa LaMonica? Kinda not cool, yo. And Don Knotts knocking out his own girlfriend. What is it with hitting women in films from this era? Did they have a quota or something? "Yes, Mr. Bond has to smack a lady at least twice a film or he doesn't get paid."
Some of the comedy just didn't hit the right tone. Like making Abner think he lost his virginity when he didn't. It could have been funnier, but it felt a little mean. It should a crazy out-of-control kind of moment like when chaos would break out during a Carry-On film with Don Knotts waving his hands trying to yell "Stop! Let me explain! It's not what you think! Well... maybe it is, a little." -something like that.
