What were they thinking when they made this??

What were the casting people thinking Charles Bronson!! I think I saw this movie when I was about 10 and I have yet to recover. What I really want to know is why every shop seems to have a copy of this movie. Who is behind this? It is outrageous when there are so many good movies not on DVD!! Apart from Straw Dogs has Susan George actually done anything else worth watching? I yes I forgot didn't she go out with Prince Charles once - well I suppose we should feel sorry for her.

Kiki,

I read a biography on Charles Bronson a long time ago and this was during a period where his popularity was dwindling so he went to Britain to find work - this is one of the movies he did during this period.

I absolutely love this man - have you seen his bod???? Watch the Great Escape and one of the tunnel scenes, you'll see what a natural hunk of a body he had (and believe me, I'm young enough to be his grand-daughter, lol)

I saw this movie as a teen (15 years ago) and I actually really like this movie - to me, its a feel-good movie, and makes me sad when she leaves him (maybe cause i would actually stay with him *tongue-in-cheek*) - and I love the era, I love the theme song and I just taped it again (with a better picture through my top box) just 2 nights ago - the CC didn't come up so good so I'm not happy there - waiting for it to come to dvd!!! (I'm in Australia).

And I agree with you that there are so many fantastic movies, yet to come on dvd - especially classic Hollywood movies that are avaliable in the US and not here in Oz!!!

I am Australian too! I saw it in a shop not long ago - I think you just need to trawl through the bargain spots at JB Hifi and you would find a copy for $5.00. I still can't agree with you on Charles Bronson - but I have liked many a strange person and strange film so what can I say.

Charles Bronson was good I thought, considering it wasn't his usual violent stereotyped vigilante. Yeah, he's kind of pushing it for a 38 year old but he's very likable in the film and proved he could do light comedy as well as action. Plus it's funny to see Bronson's reaction to Lola's spooky stuffed doll! I could easily see a precocious teen like Susan George falling for Bronson.

Same to me... I saw this movie when I was a teen,I love the era, I love the theme song, I love Twinky's dresses(60's fashion was so cool...see BLOW UP), I'm in love with this strange love story. It's definetly not a bad movie.

I too saw this film many monns ago when it was shown on TV here in the UK. It does indeed beggar belief. The casting is bizarre in extremis. You are right, I mean, Charles Bronson? However, the "theme tune" has stuck in my head for the last 25 years and God only knows why.
I have never seen this available in any shop although an ebay search reveals loads of copies in the United States which tells you all you need to know.
Shame Bronson never got to make a sequel. I would have liked to see that.Not.

It wasnt a bad movie. It was interesting and entertaining. Enough said.

I just want to know where I can get a copy of the theme song!

This IS a bizarre film, but it's still rather fun, and perfect for early morning viewing (currently being screened as I write, at 2am on teh ABC).

'Carry-On' actor Jim Dale did the music for this movie. One of a number of films he performed music for.

I doubt this kinda movie would be made today. The writer(s) & director might be seen as pervs.

It's pretty extraordinary for Bronson to say that this was during a period where his popularity was dwindling, when he'd made Once Upon A Time In The West - the film that made him a star - only two years earlier! I guess he was just a one trick pony. Twinky, incidentally, is utter tripe.
