Poor picture quality...

Rented this on netflix and I dont know what cameras they used in 1969 but it was shot dark and very grainy, suprising for what I consider a modern era film. If this was black & white it would look like something shot in the 1930s!

There is a stunning UK DVD with a nice interview with George from 1975.
The US LOLA versions are particularly cruddy looking.

Recently bought this movie, and yeah, incredibly grainy. Plus, I'll have to adjust the color on the TV as the movie isn't only grainy, but is very green.

There seems to be some dispute as to whether or not the film is public domain. A film which has lapsed into public domain can be commercially issued by anyone who has a copy, however bad, hence many distributors issuing very bad versions.

With such films, if possible, find a better copy through a more reputable distributor; but it probably won't be for $5 as they will have had to spend money on professional restoration/transfers from the best available sources.
